TEAK PATIO FURNITURE

Teak furniture has a reputation for being rote resistant, sturdy, and extremely durable, which is very true.  The majority of the worlds teak furniture comes from Indonesia and Thailand, where it is under local government control on plantations.  However, because of the great demand for teak wood approximately 10 to 15% of the teak harvested is cut down illegally.  Sadly, it is this greed, which is leading to deforestation.

Teak grows in tropical rainforest areas where the trees reach maturity under varying environmental conditions that actually help to contribute to the wood being resistant to harsh conditions.  Including being nearly impervious to most insect attacks as well as rot.

Teak has an extremely high concentration of silicon and natural oils that repel insects, mold, and fungi.  Once cut, planned and fashioned into furniture, these oils still protect the teak furniture.  There are teak benches, chairs and outdoor tables that are over 100 years old, which are still in use today and still look as good as they did the first year they were put into use.  It is this durability that makes teak a good investment.  If you plan to purchase teak patio furniture, you can expect to pay a considerable amount of money.  However, the good news is, you’ll be purchasing patio furniture that can last you a lifetime—or longer.

However, no matter how durable teak wood outdoor patio furniture may be, it still requires cleaning at least yearly.  This will ensure that your teak outdoor furniture will last for years to come.  Your teak furniture will turn silvery-gray the longer it is exposed to the elements.  In addition, if you keep your outdoor teak furniture in the shade or less sunny then your teak furniture, could develop moss build-up.  As unsightly as this may sound, teak wood furniture can be cleaned easily with soap and water.  In fact, this is all the maintenance that is usually required to maintain teak outdoor patio furniture, there is no needs to bleach it, or repaint it or even refinish it.  If however, you want to return your furniture to its natural golden brown, then there are cleaners and oils that you can purchase.

If you are looking for outdoor furniture that will last and that requires minimal to no maintenance then teak outdoor patio makes a great investment.
